The skills you learn while playing football are skills that you can take with you for the rest of your life. Everyday, I consciously and unconsciously access my high school football experience. In life, everyday is game day. Mistakes are turnovers, accomplishments are touchdowns, overcoming obstacles demonstrates character like perseverance, integrity and will. Don’t underestimate the gift of football, especially as a Legendary Prospect Knight.

The key is not the will to win...everybody has that.
It is the will to prepare to win
that is important.
- Coach Bobby Knight

We’ll start our season with inspiration from Bobby Knight. Coach Knight has won over 900 games in his coaching career, capturing the Big Ten Regular Season Championship 11 times, the NCAA Tournament Championship 3 times and has been named the Big Ten Coach of the Year 6 times, this is a man who knows a thing or to about winning. So what does he mean when he says it’s the will to prepare to win that is the key to winning? It’s simple, your dedication at practice, your will to prepare for the game, will lead you and your team to victory, it’s not enough to just have the will to win.

This is easy to apply to everyday life. Having the will to get an “A” on a test will not get you that “A” right, but having the will to sit down and study and prepare for the test will lead you to the “A” most of the time. This is the same even after school, before going on your first interview you’ll read up on the company to learn exactly what they do, because the will to get the job will not get you the job, but have a good understanding of what the company does, how your skills can benefit them and a dedication to that company will get you the job. As you can see, the will to accomplish something is not nearly as important as the will to prepare to accomplish something. Cultivate your will to prepare and you will be a Champion on and off the field.
